Kroger night shifts faced big problems. These were the challenges we identified by speaking with stakeholders and Night Shift Leaders:
No Order: Workers weren't always trained and often they didn't log hours correctly even after multiple reminders.
Visibility : Big stores make it hard to check if work is being done.
Not Knowing: No good system to track incoming trucks means delays.
Bad Placement: Rotating managers don't know who is best at what.
Low Speed: Matching the wrong worker to the job slows everyone down.

The Premise
@Deloitte i worked on delveloping a solution to manage staff during nightshifts for our client Kroger
Kroger is a huge supermarket chain in United States.
They use a lot of internal tools for things like management, logistics etc.
When they had a need to build a solution for managing staff during night shifts they reached out to deloitte.
Me myself as the Lead Designer and Mert, a Product Manager from Canada were assigned for coming up with the solution.
Stakeholder Discussion
We got in touch with the stakeholders and had multiple conversations regarding the requirements, timeframe, expectations, collaboration and maintenance requirements.
Based on these Mert prepared a SRS document and we got it verified and approved by stakeholders as well as Hashedin by Deloitte leadership
User Research
Me myself together with Mert interviewed some Nightshift staff and Leaders.
We tried to understand their daily work, How they are managing things without an app, Issues they are facing with how they are handling things now etc.
One key remark from leaders was that assigning specific work to the staff using the manual system was a bit hard for them.

Remodelling User Journey
Based on the discussion we decided to introduce a digital process.
We debated on whether to introduce a web/desktop application or a simple mobile app. Ease of use, portability and ability to use additional provisions like GPS lead us to go ahead with a cross platform mobile application.
Next we tried to modify the user flow in case we are introducing a mobile app to figure out an expected user flow.
Ideation
Based on the expectations and insights we discussed with stakeholders on the required features.
Next we created flows and interactions for the app as rough wireframes.
Visual Design
Kroger already had a matured design system . So visual styles were already fixed.
We created our Visual designs based on it using sketch and converted them to a prototype using Invision so that users could test it out.

User Testing and Handoff
The designs were user tested.
Based on user feedback minor changes were accommodated.
After designs were finalized Mert's team developed it and shipped the product.
Higher Efficiency in task allocation and employee management
Improved Visibility into nightshift operations and task completion statuses.
