@Deloitte i worked on delveloping a solution to manage staff during nightshifts for our client Kroger
Kroger is a huge supermarket chain in United States.
They use a lot of internal tools for things like management, logistics etc.
When they had a need to build a solution for managing staff during night shifts they reached out to deloitte.
Me myself as the Lead Designer and Mert, a Product Manager from Canada were assigned for coming up with the solution.

We got in touch with the stakeholders and had multiple conversations regarding the requirements, timeframe, expectations, collaboration and maintenance requirements.
Based on these Mert prepared a SRS document and we got it verified and approved by stakeholders as well as Hashedin by Deloitte leadership

In Kroger supermarkets managing nightshift staff was a headache. Typically the staff were largely unorganised and untrained. They barely followed proper punch in & punch out procedures.
So understanding the available staff and if they have assigned work was a headache for the shift leader.
Kroger supermarkets could be really vast. So understanding and monitoring what each staff is doing was a priority for the shift leader.
It is usually at night there would be inbound trucks with groceries. There was no easy way for the leader to know these details.
There could be some staff proficient in some specific job. Assigning the right resources would boost the productivity of team.Since shift leaders often switch places and time there was no easy way for them to know this.

To understand how the Inhouse app should be we decided to get in touch with actual users.
Me myself together with Mert interviewed some Nightshift staff and Leaders.
We tried to understand their daily work, How they are managing things without an app, Issues they are facing with how they are handling things now etc.
One key remark from leaders was that assigning specific work to the staff using the manual system was a bit hard for them.

Based on the research we tried to remap their daily routine. We ideated upon how we could improve this manual process using technology.

Next we created some rough wireframes based on our ideas to showcase the new flows to users.

We showed the revamped flows to some users and got feedback.
Our solution was well received.
One key concern they raised was that they might need some training to adopt to this system.
Another ask was that since not all staff would be that cooperative, and might find ways to avoid work, leaders needed a rating system built in.

Based on the input we made some changes to the plan
We needed a good onboarding system. The solution should be more intuitive.
We also needed some ways to measure work completed. So we decided to introduce a rating system in profiles.

Kroger had a specific design system they were using. So visual styles were already fixed. We created our Visual designs based on it using sketch and converted them to a prototype using invision so that users could test it out.

Next we shared the prototypes for users to go through and provide feedback. We didn't use any testing platform but asked them to record them using the app realtime and provide feedback in an unmoderated manner. Since it was a tool they would be using the night shift leaders were really keen on providing feedback and enhancement requests. We carefully went through all inputs . The response was generally positive. We incorporated some of the feedback and finalized the designs.
